LOS ANGELES http://www.oldskoolscontate.it/ , April 20 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. Senators of Hawaii and other politicians on Thursday slammed Attorney General Jeff Sessions over his remarks about a federal judge who halted President Donald Trump's revised travel ban last month.

As one of the most powerful law enforcement officials in the nation,Sessions said in a radio interview Wednesday that he was "really amazed that a judge sitting on an island in the Pacific can issue an order" that stopped President Trump's executive order.

Sessions made these comments after Derrick Watson, a federal judge in Hawaii, last month issued an order that blocked Trump's ban on travelers from several Muslim-majority countries.

His remarks drew quick criticism nationwide, and his dismissal of Hawaii as "an island in the Pacific" sparked outrage in the state.

Hawaii's Democratic federal senator Mazie Hirono criticized Sessions' dismissal of Hawaii with three tweets in one day.

"Hey Jeff Sessions, this #IslandinthePacific# has been the 50th state for going on 58 years. And we won't succumb to your dog whistle politics," she posted early Thursday, then said hours later that "Hawaii was built on the strength of diversity & immigrant experiences -- including my own. Jeff Sessions' comments are ignorant & dangerous."

Another Hawaii federal senator Brian Schatz slammed Sessions' remark on Twitter as well, saying that "Mr. Attorney General: You voted for that judge. And that island is called Oahu. It's my home. Have some respect."

Meanwhile, a federal congresswomen from California, Judy Chu, accused Sessions of racial discrimination on her official Twitter account, saying that "When Sessions was nominated, we warned he didn't view all Americans equally" and dismissing Hawaii proved it.

On Thursday evening, the spokesperson of the Justice Department Ian Prior tried to clarified Sessions' statement.

"Hawaii is, in fact, an island in the Pacific -- a beautiful one where the Attorney General's granddaughter was born," he said. "The point, however, is that there is a problem when a flawed opinion by a single judge can block the President's lawful exercise of authority to keep the entire country safe."

BERLIN, May 28 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel's political union stays strong against its major rivalries months ahead of the federal election, according to a latest poll released on Sunday.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) of Germany, led by Merkel, got 38 percent of the voter support while the Social Democratic Party(SPD), headed by ex-President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, fell to 25 percent, according to the opinion poll designed by research institute Emnid and local media Bild am Sonntag.

The supporting rate for the Free Democratic Party(FDP), the Green Party, the Left and right-wing Alternative for Germany (AFD) were equally at 8 percent.

The poll also showed that if German chancellor were directly elected, 52 percent would opt for Merkel and 29 percent would choose Schulz.

German Federal elections will be held in Germany on Sept. 24. Many local media noted the focus would be on Merkel's re-election bid facing Schulz's powerful challenge.

Earlier in February, some opinion polls have constantly showed Schulz will have the edge over Merkel in the coming election. Some local media even dubbed it as "Schulz effect," and speculated Schulz might substitute Merkel since she lost momentum due to the migrant crisis.

In a similar questionnaire in February, Schulz won 46 percent over Merkel's 40 percent.

But the recent SPD setbacks in state elections, in Saarland, Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia have dimmed the hope of Schulz since he failed to transform his popularity into votes.

LONDON, June 1 (Xinhua) -- British Prime Minister Theresa May and her main rival, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, focused on Brexit Thursday as campaigning for Britain's general election entered its final seven days.

Both gave keynote speeches saying how they would approach Britain's departure from the European Union.

May's message that no Brexit deal is better than a bad deal, earned a response from Corbyn saying: "no deal is a bad deal."

With one of the latest opinion polls giving May's Conservative Party a narrow three-point lead over Labour, Corbyn's party is now scenting it is within grasp of beating May in next Thursday's general election.

In what will be seen as a major blow for the Conservatives, the London Evening Standard said Thursday night that in a shock surge, Corbyn was now more popular in London than May.

The newspaper, edited by former Chancellor George Osborne, the politician fired by May last year, said for the first time, more voters in the capital say they think the Labour leader would make a better Prime Minister than May.
